Big Y is one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England. Proud to be family owned and operated, they operate almost 80 stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. On their store departments they offer meat, produce, deli, prepared food, organic food and seafood, some stores they also have a bakery and floral shop.
Big Y Foods Incorporated, also known as Big Y World Class Market or Big Y Supermarkets, is located in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut. It is still family owned and run by D’Amour family.
Why call it Big Y? Because Big Y Foods began as a 900-sq.-ft. grocery store at a Y intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Now, most of its stores are Big Y World Class Markets, offering specialty areas such as bakeries and floral shops, as well as banking. The rest consists of Big Y Supermarkets, two food and liquor stores called either table and vine and fresh acres, and a pair of pharmacies. Some Big Y stores provide child care, dry cleaning, photo processing, and even propane sales, and their delis and food courts offer to-go foods.
